Simon & Schuster Faces Down Casey Anthony Book Rumors

Simon & Schuster’s Facebook page has been sabotaged by the furious Internet vigilantes who believed a (false) rumor that S&S had signed a book deal with Casey Anthony. The rabid internet watchdogs have filled S&S’s comments section with calls to boycott the publishing house.

One commenter, a blond named Rina Hartman, showed particular dedication.

On a post about a reading by Jennifer Weiner on July 12:

“YOU KNOW WHAT I CAN’T WAIT FOR? TO START BOYCOTTING YOU,,, THERE ARE LOTS OF OTHER GREAT CHOICES OUT THERE WHO WILL NOT GIVE A DEAL TO BABY KILLERS LIAR MOM.”

On a post about Rick Springfield’s memoir Late, Late at Night:

“LATE LATE AT NIGHT THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF VOLUNTEERS LOOKING FOR LITTLE CAYLEE”

On a post for the unfortunately-titled mystery novel No Rest for the Dead:

“TOO BAD THERE IS NO REST FOR THE DEAD LIKE THAT PRECIOUS LITTLE GIRL CAYLEE….. SHAME ON YOU SIMON AND SHISTER”

On Jana Harris’s Horses Never Lie About Love:

“I WISH A HORSE WOULD WISK BABY KILLERS FAMILY FAR FAR AWAY AND MAKE THEM FALL OFF THE HORSE AND DIE”

The hundreds of furious comments forced S&S to post “An update to our fans regarding rumors about Simon & Schuster: we are not publishing, and have never intended to publish, any book by Casey Anthony, her family, or any member of her team.” This got 377 “likes.”

Make note of what they DIDN’T say. Notice they didn’t mention- “We NEVER intend to publish books by Casey Anthony”, et al.
