Randall Lane is leaving Newsweek/The Daily Beast for Forbes, where he will be an Editor, the money mag announced today. Mr. Lane was Editor-at-Large at Newsweek/The Daily Beast.
In the hiring announcement, Steve Forbes cites Mr. Lane’s knowledge of the website side as a reason. “Precisely because Randall knows the print and electronic worlds, he will guide Forbes magazine with a sure, confident hand,” wrote Mr. Forbes.
This represents a homecoming of sorts for Mr. Lane. He worked at Forbes from 1991 to 1997. “It’s rare in life that you get a chance to go home again. To return to the place I started and edit one of America’s great, iconic magazines is both an honor and a thrill,” he said in the announcement.
Mr. Lane will return to Forbes shortly after Labor Day. We don’t know what this means for the Newsbeast softball team. After a rough season, they have been on a winning streak since Randall Lane, who serves as their captain, began pitching. They recently beat Forbes 15-6. Maybe softball talent is the real reason that Forbes snatched back Mr. Lane.
