Amazon has added to its stable of genre fiction imprints with 47North, an imprint specializing in Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror. Like the company’s Montlake romance imprint and Thomas & Mercer thriller imprint, 47North’s name derives from a Seattle-specific location, in this case the the city’s latitude.
The new imprint will launch with 15 titles, including The Mongoliad: Book One, the first in a five-book, “community-driven, enhanced” serial called the Foreworld series, which is “led by” Neal Stephenson and Greg Bear. The press release for the imprint says that 47North books will be available in digital format for the Kindle, “as well as at national and independent booksellers.”
Barnes & Noble recently announced that it will not stock print versions of books Amazon makes exclusive to the Kindle, with an executive telling Publishers Weekly that “regardless of the publisher, we will not stock physical books in our stores if we are not offered the available digital format.”
