Bill Jensen Leaves Village Voice for Old Foe Idolator

vilalgevioce Bill Jensen Leaves Village Voice for Old Foe IdolatorBill Jensen, director of new media for Village Voice Media, has been named general manager/vice president of music at Buzz Media, according to an item buried on LAObserved last month.

Mr. Jensen has been with VVM since 2006, when he was plucked from the top of the Boston Phoenix‘s masthead to oversee the alt-weekly chain’s bloggers, web editors, and apps. He will not be replaced, according to a corporate memo obtained by LAObserved.

Buzz Media is the parent company of Idolator, which Mr. Jensen polemicized against in 2007 when the music blog (then owned by Gawker) launched Jackin’ Pop, a rival to the Village Voice‘s annual music criticism compendium, Pazz & Jop. The text, supposedly written as the lead essay to that year’s Pazz & Jop, was leaked to and published on Idolator.

“Village Voice kills music criticism?” Mr. Jensen memorably concluded. “Dewey Defeats Truman, Motherfuckers.”
