Though the Madison Square Park Conservancy is still three weeks away from unveiling its latest commission (from Dutch artist Jacco Olivier, on Dec. 15), it is already planning next year’s programming. Coming this spring, California artist Charles Long will create a site-specific work in the park, called Pet Sounds.

Mr. Long, who is represented in New York by Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, is perhaps best known for sculptures that often involve unusual and bizarre materials, and take a remarkable number of forms. He has had solo shows at the Hammer Museum and the Orange County Museum of Art, and participated in the 2008 and 1997 Whitney Biennials.
