No doubt December will see us going to scores of stuffy cocktail parties with bad hors d’oeuvres and worse company. Tonight, let’s look for something a little edgier. Breathe life into a cadaverously dull lineup of social engagements, why don’t we? Let’s party in a yurt. Yes, that’s right, a yurt: the Turcik tepee where your parents sat around cross-legged puffing peace pipes in the ’60s. What affords this exquisitely Age of Aquarius opportunity, you wonder? McSweeny’s will be celebrating The Believer’s 2011 art issue, and the yurt’s intimate hide-covered enclosure is the perfect place to do so. With readings, screenings and boatloads of Boho-chic revelers scattered throughout (as much as one can scatter in a yurt), the evening will be equal parts amusing and claustrophobic.
The Believer/McSweeney’s Party in the Yurt, 45 Grand Street at the Warby Parker Holiday Spectacle Bazaar, 6 to 8 p.m. Open to the public.
