Glenn Beck's Reality Show Teaches Americans How to Go Off the Grid

Glenn Beck’s digital television network, GBTV, released a trailer for its first reality television show today. It’s called Independence U.S.A.

The series follows a family of four on the road to complete self-sufficiency and isolation. Each episode  depicts the family’s struggle to shed one of modern society’s many shackles, led by survivalist patriarch Frank Belcastro (who evidently shares Mr. Beck’s enthusiasm for chalk board pedagogy).

From the marketing materials:

Concerned that the economy could collapse? Or that a natural disaster could wipe out our infrastructure? So is Frank, and he is doing something about it! Believing that America has become too reliant on a crumbling foundation, Frank is preparing his family for life “off the grid,” admiring the way people lived in the 19th century. Like them, he longs to become completely independent.

Independence, U.S.A. is the latest in GBTV’s original programming line up, which includes comedy show The B.S. of A., children’s show Liberty Treehouse, Mr. Beck’s two-hour show, and aforthcoming animated show from Icebox studio.
