With New Year’s just around the corner, you have only a few more days to get your Christmas, er, holiday kicks! Today you’re feeling inspired by the cool weather and, bundling yourself in that new Loro Piana cashmere wrap, you venture out into the algid city air. Today you’ve little interest in shopping (you’re waiting until the hubby recovers from the shock of last month’s black card bill … Cartier ain’t cheap!) and have decided to partake in a youthful winter pastime. Polished white skates in tote, you head down to the Rockefeller Center rink for the happy scene: tweens shuffling along, gripping the boards with first-date fear, parents screaming as their tots are knocked down by tipsy 20-somethings. And then there’s you, a picture of grace and private-lesson perfection, gliding confidently around the rink, arms outstretched. As you nudge (and judge) a loutish tourist, you find yourself nearing full-on Tanya Harding mode and are required to excuse yourself before a lawsuit develops. Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted!
Rockefeller Center Skating Rink, Fifth Avenue between 49th and 50th street, 9:00 a.m to 10:30 p.m. Reserve tickets at http://www.rockefellercenter.com/tour-and-explore/the-ice-skating-rink/.
