According to your zodiac calendar (and internal Zen clock), yesterday was Chinese New Year! The year of the dragon has returned at last! Feeling festive, you’ll place little embossed red envelopes on your employees’ desks, each containing a dollar bill and a gift certificate to Subway. So beneficent, you! Let them eat five dollar footlongs! After setting off a few black-market fireworks from your terrace, you’ll head to Lincoln Center, where Chinese sensation Lang Lang will perform alongside the New York Philharmonic for a special concert to ring in the New Year! After the performance, a gala benefit to support the Philharmonic will be held, co-chaired by Henry Kissinger and H. E. Ambassador Li Baodong, China’s rep at the UN (a good guy to know). The attire is billed as “black tie or traditional Chinese dress …” You know what that means. Time to bust out your chang-fu!
Chinese New Year With Lang Lang, Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, reception 6 to 7 p.m., concert 7:30 p.m. For tickets, from $35, visit http://nyphil.org/concertsTicks/. For gala tickets, contact Jennifer Levine at (212) 875-5760 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
