Sure, you're planning on watching 30 Rock tonight--we don't need to tell you to DVR it. But we encourage you to actually watch it before the week's out: last episode was both draggy and weird in the way 30 Rock can be in its lesser moments (must we always have a C-plot?) and deliriously hyper-comic. The best and the worst of it all were summarized in the Jenna subplot, wherein the diva-ish actress got a gig judging a reality show about kids singing (leading to a tired-seeming reality-show satire--we got it, guys!). The plotline transcended itself, though, with weird stuntcasting (John McEnroe!), small touches beyond the broad "reality-shows-like-insults" paradigm (the branded soda the judges drink was all off-brand grape soda), and an oddly touching final sequence, set to the voice of a child singing an old standard while all the show's characters find their own sense of fulfillment. Didn't we used to cry to this sort of thing in 2007, when the hot Thursday show was Grey's Anatomy? Why are we crying now?
