Circuit Court Strikes Down California’s Proposition 8

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has found California’s Proposition 8 unconstitutional. The bill, voted into state law in 2008, had outlawed same-sex marriage in California. Said the court: “Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California.” The case is likely to be appealed and thus end up before the Supreme Court.
