Screw you Empire State Building!
After unsuccessfully trying to get the Empire State Building to glow red for the rest of the week in honor of Cardinal Dolan’s elevation in the Catholic Church, Staten Island Congressman pitched his case to at least one other building, and succeeded.
Port Authority’s Executive Director Patrick Foye agreed to light One World Trade Center in red for the next seven nights, and Mr. Grimm, who said in the statement that “giving up is not in my DNA,” couldn’t be more happy.
“Where there is a will there is a way, and One WTC is even more appropriate as a symbol of hope, courage and the bright future of New York, all of which Cardinal Dolan exemplifies,” he said. “This illumination will not just serve as a celebration of Cardinal Dolan, but of all our city’s heroes. It is an opportunity for all of us to honor the lives and bravery of those we lost, and to show our pride for a local leader who has given so much to the people of New York with his faith and charity.”
The Empire State Building will be confined to using its lights to honor such things as “the Baby Buggy 10th Anniversary” (December 5th) or the “5th Anniversary of Mary Poppins on Broadway” (November 15th).
