Ruiz submits teacher tenure reform bill

TRENTON – State Sen. M. Teresa Ruiz (D-29), Newark, today submitted her so-called teacher tenure reform bill, S1455, which would revise teacher tenure in public schools.

Titled the “Teacher Effectiveness and Accountability for the Children of New Jersey (TEACHNJ) Act,” Ruiz’s bill imposes strengthened teacher standards, forcing classification of “highly effective, effective, partially ineffective and ineffective” teachers.

The bill dovetails with Gov. Chris Christie’s demands for greater teacher accountability in public schools.
