To Do Friday: Hot Type

Try as we might, we find practically all literary readings hopelessly dull, indulgent affairs. The pretense of erudition makes our toes curl (not in a good way) and our blood curdle (also not in a good way) within seconds of hearing “Thanks so much for coming! I’d like to read a portion from my latest work …” Tonight, however, may be the exception that proves the rule: ever-edgy cabaret Le Poisson Rouge has arranged for a reading that may tickle our fancy. We’re heading down to the East Village tonight for an evening based entirely around erotica in poetry and prose. We’ve designed a drinking game that has us take a shot every time either “throbbing manhood” or “love tunnel” is spoken. (Also, gents, sweatpants not recommended attire.)

Titillating Tongues: NYC Erotica in Poetry & Prose + Open Mic @ Le Poisson Rouge, Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets, $10, available at
