While Greece may be getting a euro zone bail-out, it’s your civic responsibility to do your part for the Hellenic Republic. No, we’re not asking you to buy a gas mark and jaunt over to Athens, but rather to journey to Midtown to celebrate Clean Monday in Grecian company. At the Kellari Taverna, you’ll help raise funds for the Gennadius Library in Athens, whose untold treasures may soon be burned for fuel without your patronage. Popping calamatas and sipping Mediterranean tipples, you’ll make friends with Greece’s ambassador to the U.S., bemoan German bullying in the euro zone (in hushed tones, of course) and planning next summer’s yachting excursion around the Mykonos. Cheers to a bright postbailout future!
Clean Monday Benefit for the Gennadius Library, Kellari Taverna, 19 West 44th Street, 6:30 p.m. Tickets, from $160, available by contacting Jane Goble at 609-683-0800, ext. 14, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
