A One-Sentence Review of Paul Morris’s Armory Toast

Much of Armory founding director Paul Morris’s welcome toast to the champagne-toting collectors and advisers in the pinkish-maroonish-purplish VIP room at Pier 94 yesterday morning could not be heard, as he simply stood on a chair and raised his voice with no hope of decibel competition with the person banging a drum or a hammer just over the partition—he definitely mentioned how local all the food is, though—and he was also overshadowed rhetorically, by John Waters, who delivered his zinger from a table near the back of the room, to this reporter, while discussing his interview with Cindy Sherman for the MoMA catalogue: “I’m seeing a lot of Cindy Shermans around the VIP room, actually… live and in-person.”
