GOP Congressman Bob Turner may no longer be seeking reelection, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the campaign arm of the House Democrats, is continuing to barrage him with attacks anyway.
“Representative Bob Turner (NY-09) just showed his true priorities once again — voting for the Republican budget that chooses millionaires over Medicare,” a press release yesterday read, while a statement the day before had a spokesman, Jesse Ferguson, declaring, “It’s clear Turner has bowed to the right wing of his party at the expense of the safety and security of New York women.”
And again, a Tuesday press release declared another one of his votes “beyond outrageous.”
Mr. Turner’s Congressional District, of course, was one of the victims of redistricting this year when the courts drew his best performing areas into three different extremely Democratic districts, leaving him with nowhere to run for reelection in. Subsequently, Mr. Turner announced he would instead seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Kirsten Gillibrand.
“He’s still a Republican member of congress taking bad votes,” Mr. Ferguson told The Politicker this afternoon. “The bottom line is voters who elected Bob Turner should know what Bob Turner is doing, regardless of what his aspirations are.”
On the other side of the coin, the National Republican Campaign Committee is still hammering away at Mr. Turner’s former Democratic opponent, Assemblyman Rory Lancman — who switched his campaign to a new district following redistricting — without mentioning the other Democrats also in the race. Mr. Lancman called it a badge of honor, but the organization may just need to update its list.
