The 2012 Shorty Awards Were Anything But—and Betabeat Has the Photos to Prove It

  • Last night’s Shorty Awards at the Times Center was a comedy-filled night hosted by The Daily Show’s married, Canadian correspondence team Sam Bee and Jason Jones. Michael Bloomberg made a special appearance to accept the Mayor of Foursquare award from Foursquare founder and CEO Dennis Crowley.

Improv Everywhere’s Charlie Todd, White Collar‘s Tiffani Thiesson, Quora’s Charlie Cheever, Tumblr’s David Karp and many others presented the awards to those who use social media in the most impactful ways.

The representatives from Occupy Wall Street told Betabeat that they did not know the Mayor would be present, but said that spreading the OWS message was more important than boycotting the Shorties entirely because of the Mayor’s presence. They did interrupt him at the end of his comedy bit though.
