E. O’Brien Murray, who managed Congressman Bob Turner’s upset special election win last summer, joins Global Strategy Group’s Jefrey Pollock in receiving awards from the American Association of Political Consultants this year. Mr. Murray was designated the Republican “Campaign Manager Of The Year” for his work shepherding Mr. Turner into Congress.
Capital New York profiled Mr. Murray after his campaign’s victory last year where he discussed campaigning with a shoestring budget, something AAPC referenced as well in their designation.
“The fact that Turner’s camp was able to effectively exploit Weprin’s missteps – despite only having enough cash for a single cable TV ad – is impressive,” they wrote. “Murray also helped devise some very smart targeting of orthodox Jewish voters and Russian American voters in the district that helped Turner get over the top.”
Mr. Turner, who’s now campaigning for the U.S. Senate seat held by Kirsten Gillibrand, thoroughly congratulated Mr. Murray in a press release blasted out this afternoon.
“The AAPC confirms today what I learned a year ago: O’B Murray is the best in the business and I am proud to have him leading my campaign for the United States Senate,” he said. “O’B Murray is now at the helm of an even stronger campaign team which will work day and night through November to draw attention to the critical economic issues affecting New Yorkers and to Senator Gillibrand’s deeply inadequate record in Washington.”
The Democratic “Campaign Manager of the Year” designee was AJ Stokes, who managed the pro-unionization “We are Ohio” campaign.
