The Martha Graham Center for Contemporary Dance will take over the former studio of Merce Cunningham Dance Company in the Westbeth Center for the Arts in Greenwich Village. Its lease starts July 1.

The Merce Cunningham Dance Company had been located at the studio since 1970. After Cunningham’s death in 2009, the company embarked on a final tour culminating in a final performance on Dec. 31, 2011, at the Park Avenue Armory.

Judith G. Schlosser, the chairwoman of the Graham company, told The New York Times that the move means that they have “arisen like a phoenix.”
