Assemblyman Rory Lancman has over $200,000 in his campaign chest as he seeks the Democratic nomination for an open Queens congressional seat, his campaign spokesman informed The Politicker this afternoon.
The total represents a nice chunk of change for his campaign to move forward with and is around double what one of his opponents, Councilwoman Liz Crowley, reportedly raised. It’s not immediately clear how much of that has been spent as she ramped up her campaign in the past two weeks.
Mr. Lancman, of course, has been raising money for a longer period of time, as he was originally running against GOP Congressman Bob Turner before redistricting changed his plans. However, his campaign has been picking up some steam in recent days with a string of labor endorsements and Mayor Ed Koch.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the third candidate in the primary, Assemblywoman Grace Meng, emailed reporters this afternoon promising amazing numbers tomorrow, writing, “Friends – I know everyone is eager to hear news of Grace’s fundraising for the period ending midnight 3/31…we’ll be sharing that information tomorrow morning. I know you’ll all be astonished.”
The reporting deadline is April 15th, which will provide additional clarity as to where the money in this campaign is actually traveling.
