Two paintings that were stolen in a violent home robbery in Massachusetts back in 1976 have resurfaced and will hit the auction block at Sotheby’s next month.

Childe Hassam’s In the Sun will appear at the auction house’s American Art sale on May 17. It is estimated at $1.5 million- $2.5 million.

The Shore of Lake Geneva by Gustave Courbet, which will be for sale at the 19th-Century European Art sale on May 4 has a pre-sale estimate of $200,000 to $300,000.

The works were recovered in 2007 and are being sold by the heir of the previous owners.
