Mayor Michael Bloomberg has commissioned three artists to create work for the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children’s Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, which is named after his mother. The artists are Tom Burckhardt, Byron Kim and Eva Wylie, all alumni of the Skowhegan artist residency in Maine.

The new Johns Hopkins Hospital will open later this month. It has more than 500 original artworks by 70 artists inside.

“Through these exceptional artists and architects, we have created a unique space that incorporates art and design thoughtfully and with attention to detail,” Mr. Bloomberg said in a statement. “The center has a calming presence and creates a healing environment for all the families that pass through these doors, the expert medical professionals who work here, and for the Hopkins and Baltimore community.”
