Attorney and activist Yetta Kurland is having a rather artistic fundraiser with illustrator Peter Max tomorrow, hosted with his wife at the Peter Max Gallery on 65th St. Ms. Kurland is currently campaigning for term-limited Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s seat next year.
This is not the first time Ms. Kurland has raised money at the Peter Max Gallery — she did it in 2009 when she challenged Ms. Quinn and scored a respectable 31% of the vote as well.
Now, with no incumbent, she is taking on community board chairs Corey Johnson and Brad Hoylman in the 2013 Democratic primary. And Mr. Max, whose psychedelic work was centered on the counter culture movement during the 1960s and 70s, is apparently very much on board with Ms. Kurland’s second try for the seat.
Mr. Max, a prominent animal rights activist, will be joined by goose-defender David Karopkin and former City Council candidate Dodge Landesman, among others.
