READINGTON – Gov. Chris Christie said he will veto the marijuana decriminalization bill moving through the Legislature if it’s sent to his desk.
The governor was prompted to discuss the topic by a member of his Readington town hall today. Christie said states should not undercut the federal government by decriminalizing marijuana.
“I think it’s contrary to what we’re trying to achieve,” said Christie, after describing the state’s medical marijuana program.
“I don’t want to send a message to any of our kids that it’s OK to try it a couple of times and have it on you,” he said. “If that bill passes … I’ll veto it.”
