Republican Congressman Michael Grimm got a mail-oriented boost to his reelection campaign today with endorsements from the New York State Association of Letter Carriers, the National Postal Mail Handlers Union and the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association. Mr. Grimm is looking to thwart Democrat Mark Murphy this November and has been steadily accumulating smaller unions in his efforts to do so.
And, in his statement announcing the backing, Mr. Grimm made sure to point to the fact that he has personally spent time with postal workers, having featured the profession in one of his “On the Job” events.
That’s not Mr. Grimm’s only experience in the delivery business, either. He’s also spent time with the UPS.
(The “On the Job” series often generates entertaining photos.)
“Rain or shine, our postal employees work around the clock to ensure that we receive high quality service and timely delivery each and every day,” Mr. Grimm said about today’s endorsement. “After having the pleasure of joining them on the job, I couldn’t have more respect for the amount of effort and pride they put into their jobs, and will do all I can to continue to fight closures and cuts that will certainly result in less service and longer delivery times for my constituents throughout Staten Island and Brooklyn.”
