Magazine Editors Are the New Bravo-Lebrities

Catching up on the new season of The Real Housewives of New York, we noted that new ‘Wife Carole Radziwill took a meeting with Glamour‘s Cindi Leive on-camera. Ms. Leive’s office, with Ellie prominently displayed, was the scene for much exposition, as Ms. Radziwill described at length the book she’s working on–and her life now after the death of her husband. Ms. Leive also commissions, on-camera, Ms. Radziwill’s profile of the Kardashian sisters–for which Ms. Radziwill asks for a word count. Just like how pieces are commissioned in real life, off-camera!

On tonight’s Miss Advised, the lower-wattage editor of Chicago’s Michigan Avenue commissions a piece from star Julia Allison–who also asks for a word count. The pair then dishes about Ms. Allison’s move to Los Angeles. All we need is one more instance before we can declare the latest iteration of magazine editors’ role on reality TV–from icy authority figure (The Hills, The City) to warm but indomitable reality-show judge (Stylista–yes, we remember it!, Project Runway) to sweetheart confessor. It may not be a net gain, though–the serious-minded Ms. Radziwill, after finishing up with Ms. Leive, is seen in an on-camera “confessional” saying her job is less serious than her past work at ABC, “with Peter Jennings and Diane Sawyer.” Better log some more camera time, Cindi!
