Tenure revamp legislation clears Assembly

TRENTON – The revamping of teacher tenure – S1455 – cleared the Assembly today.

The vote was 78-0 and represented a historic change in the way public school teachers are evaluated.

The idea of making tenure harder to achieve and easier to revoke is a centerpiece of Gov. Christie’s educational platform.

The bill extends by a year the time period to attain tenure and makes changes to the sometimes lengthy revocation process.
