Per Roger Friedman's Showbiz411, Saturday Night Live head writer Seth Meyers is in the lead to replace Regis Philbin on the morning show currently known as Live with Kelly. Kelly Ripa's other prospective co-hosts are football star Michael Strahan and singer Josh Groban--sorry, Pat Kiernan. All that lobbying for naught! And Mr. Meyers is about to do a full week of shows during the July sweeps period--good thing he has live TV experience.

While Mr. Meyers is said to be able to continue doing "Weekend Update" on SNL if he gets the gig, Mr. Friedman speculates he'll have to step down as head writer given the demands of the Live schedule. Could this be a period of renewal at Saturday Night Live after the departures of Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, and (we think...) Jason Sudeikis? Or another "Saturday Night Dead" epoch?
