Beatrix Potter Nursery Rhyme Illustrations Sold at Sotheby’s

Beatrix Potter’s complete set of watercolors for “This Pig Went to Market” sold last night at the English Literature, History, Children’s Books and Illustrations sale at Sotheby’s in London. The hammer price with buyer’s premium was £61,250 (about $95,280).

The titles of the pieces in the set are all pretty familiar, but here you go anyway, from the catalogue:

i) ‘This Pig went to Market; | This Pig staid at home;’, 215 by 283mm.; ii) ‘This Pig had a bit of Meat;’, 143 by 118mm. [together with] ‘And this Pig | had none!’, 132 by 114mm.; iii) ‘This little Pig cried “Wee! Wee! Wee! | I can’t find my way home!”‘, 216 by 284mm

The work sold within its £50,000 to £70,000 estimate.
