J.K. Rowling, who’s been largely quiet since the 2007 release of her final Harry Potter novel, has written a new book, The Casual Vacancy. Her publisher, Little, Brown, strangely chose July 3 to dump the image of the cover–perhaps presuming that no one would have anything else to talk about? Anyway, here is what the cover looks like. The book, to be released September 27, has a cover price of $35, and tells the story of a British Town Council election in a town riven by war: “Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…”
Per publicist copy, The Casual Vacancy is “J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults.” This will come as news to millions.
