Ms. Colvin's visas are often hard-won--the magazine notes she frequently has Turkish stamps, as Turkey was a safe and peaceful place through which to enter other Middle Eastern nations--and rarely bucolic. Movingly, one of her final trips was a brief vacation to the British Virgin Isles with her boyfriend, before it was back to her duty.</p>
