Governor Andrew Cuomo may be the most powerful politician in the State of New York, but that doesn’t mean he can’t embarrass his kids just like the rest of us.
Accordingly, during an interview on former Gov. David Paterson’s radio show this evening, Mr. Cuomo veered into the topic of his home life, referring to his 14-year-old daughter Michaela as “the baby” and announcing that one of his daughters is officially dating.
“Actually, I’ve a had a little bit of an awakening this summer,” Mr. Cuomo began when his predecessor asked him how his summer vacation is going. “You know my kids, the older ones Mariah and Kara, 17 and 17, even the baby is 14. The 17-year-olds are now driving. One of my daughters wanted to talk to me about a boyfriend, believe it or not.”
He laughed, then said, “I saw time moving very quickly.”
“I’ve been spending some time with them all around the state, enjoying the state,” he continued. “I’ve been spending some time with them. We’ve done some fishing, we’re going up to the Adirondacks in a couple weeks. So it’s all good, it’s been good.”
This is not Mr. Cuomo’s first attempt at making his daughters groan, either. Discussing his parenting life with The New York Times last year, he mused about their cellphone usage.
“It is a generational issue, the texting,” Mr. Cuomo said. “They are on that telephone device all the time. And it’s just amazing. It’s all the time. I use it, but it’s nowhere near what they use it.”
