ST. PETE’S BEACH – A lively NJ delegation to the Republican National Convention laughed happily at Gov. Chris Christie’s opening remarks this evening on the occasion of the embattled beginning of a storm-threatened convention in which Christie plays a starring role.
Tucked inside with a gray, Hurricane Isaac-imminent sky clinging to the Sirata Hotel, Christie told his fellow party members he was happy to arrive in these conditions.
Just in time, said the governor, to order surf revellers “to get the hell off the beach,” his last hurricane-inspired soundbite a year ago.
Speaking on the second floor of the sumptuous Italianate beach paradise, Christie, due to give the GOP keynote speech, devilishly told party members they’d have to wait for details.
