The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) today targeted U.S. Rep. Jon Runyan (R-3) by linking him to U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney’s choice for vice president.
The DCCC launched automated phone calls in an effort to expose Runyan for backing Ryan’s budget that dissolves Medicare and protects tax breaks for millionaires.
The calls signify the latest phase in the “Drive for 25” campaign, the DCCC’s plan to win the House.
The script of the automated phone call in CD 3 contains the following line, “Your Congressman, Jon Runyan, voted for a budget that would end Medicare and now the budget’s architect, Paul Ryan, is the Republican candidate for Vice President. A nonpartisan analysis showed that Ryan’s budget would raise health care costs for seniors by $6,400. The Tax Policy Center also said the Ryan budget would give people making over $1 million a year an average tax break of $265,000. And Congressman Runyan supported all of it.”
Runyan is hoping to fend off challenger Shelley Adler.
