Be sure not to miss Eddie Martinez’s show of paintings at Half Gallery, which opened last week and is terrific. The works are made with oil, spray paint and markers, and the overall effect is very Basquiat. “This work is about color and what it means,” Glenn O’Brien writes in an essay about the show. “Black is the glue and the gloom that frames the joy; it’s the night, the coal, the oil. White is black’s foil, the oxygen in the room that’s always pushing a little smoke around.” Check it out!
