It’s a fact: the only thing better than visiting a museum is visiting a museum for free. Thanks to Smithsonian Magazine, a lot more museums will be free on Saturday, Sept. 29, as part of an event it calls Museum Day Live! (With the exclamation point.)

Though not every New York museum is participating, there is a pretty solid showing that includes the American Folk Art Museum, the Museum of Arts and Design and the Storm King Art Center, Mountainville, N.Y. There are some lesser-known institutions, as well, like the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum, in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.

To obtain free admission for you and a guest, you need to go over to this special website, fill out a little form and state which museum you would like to visit. We’ll be at the beautiful Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, in the Bronx, saving $5, on Saturday.

Update, Sept. 24, 2:40 p.m. Noted that the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum is in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., on Long Island, not Cold Spring, N.Y., as previously stated.
