Transportation Committee supports bill to offer more services at rest stops

TRENTON – The Assembly Transportation Committee released bill A1279, which directs the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to prepare a report about possible opportunities for increasing revenues by providing additional retail and commercial services at rest areas and service plazas along the Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway.

The report will identify the types of services that may be offered, the types of businesses that may be involved, how the services may be managed, and the role of the authority in offering these new services, according to the bill.

The bill is in response to a recommendation in the report issued by the New Jersey Privatization Task Force on May 31, 2010.

New Jersey Sierra Club Executive Director Jeff Tittel said he supports the bill.
