Earlier today, Sotheby’s announced that it has promoted two house veterans, David Normon and Anthony Grant, to vice chairmen of the Americas. For reference, this elevates them to, at least on paper, the status of longtime New York auctioneer Tobias Meyer, who also holds that title. According to the house’s most recent catalogues, they will be the sixth and seventh people at the company to do so.

Sotheby’s, when reached for comment about the two men and their new roles, released the following bios, available below.

David Norman is now – Vice Chairman, Americas, Executive Vice President, Co-Chairman, Impressionist & Modern Art Worldwide. With nearly 30 years of experience at Sotheby’s in the field of Impressionist & Modern Art, David works with many of the most active Impressionist and Modern collectors, particularly those in the US as well as organizing private selling exhibitions in China. David will continue in his role as Co-Chairman of Sotheby’s global Impressionist & Modern team, and remain also focused on private sales.

Anthony Grant is now – Vice Chairman, Americas, Senior Expert, Contemporary Art. He has more than 30 years of experience in the Contemporary Art market at auction and in the private gallery space both in New York and California. In his new role he will continue to build post-war and Contemporary sales internationally – whether at auction or via our various private sale channels.

Thanks to the inimitable Marion Maneker, who broke the news.
