At home in the city.

At least William Holiber will have plenty of newspaper to wrap his breakables in when he and wife Debra move into their new condo at 223 West 80th Street. The CEO and president of both the New York Daily News and US News and Report may be familiar from his work with all corners of the city, but he has thrown his lot in with the Upper West Side, forking over $1.97 million for a two-bedroom, two bath condo, according to city records.

Best of all, the new spread isn't very far from Columbia, which is #4 in this year's US News rankings, so the couple will be able to amble across the quads or fill up on overlarge slices of pizza at Koronet without much trouble. But not to worry, the floor-through spread also offers more immediate creature comforts!

There are newly refinished "maplewood" floors (is maplewood the same thing as maple?), a windowed kitchen with familiar upscale brands like Sub-Zero, Viking and Bosch and a master bedroom suite with an "enormous walk-thru closet" and large "sit-in steam shower," according to the listing, held by Brown Harris Stevens broker Jenny Park Adam. Best of all, it's right across from Zabars, the listing brags.

The head of a working class paper doesn't exactly have a working class spread.

There are also a few features that may prove more useful to Mr. Holiber than the previous owners, Stuart and Randi Feiner. For example, the Feiners probably used their balcony primarily for relaxation and recreation, but Mr. Holiber can use the perch to spot police cars, fire trucks and other tabloid fodder. Plus, the living room features a large flat screen TV above the fireplace so that Mr. Holiber can get that newsroom feel whenever he wants to (turned to CNN, CNBC or NY1, though muted of course).

The couple paid full ask for the apartment—we guess Mr. Holiber only believes in making cuts to the newsroom staff. This appears to be their first apartment purchase in the city. On the deed, the Holibers list their current address as a rental unit at the Ashley on West 63rd Street.
