Hauser & Wirth has announced the details of its second New York location, a 24,700 square foot space at 511 West 18th Street. It’s set to open Jan. 22 with a solo show by Dieter Roth. The show will include Roth’s The Floor I (Studio floor from Mosfellsbaer, Iceland), as well as many works never before seen in the United States. Carol Vogel mentioned some of these details in her “Inside Art” column yesterday.
The best news, though, is that Roth’s son Björn will create a fully functioning bar inside the gallery, a nod to this father’s work–and perhaps to the building’s history (it used to be home to the Roxy nightclub). It will be installed “indefinitely” inside the new location. Artist Martin Creed will also have a long-term installation along the gallery’s staircase.
