All eyes are on London this week, with the Frieze Art Fair set to open tomorrow, but there’s some news out of Berlin today: Juan A. Gaitán has been selected to curate the eighth edition of the Berlin Biennale, which takes place in 2014. The report of the hiring comes from Artforum.
Mr. Gaitán is an independent curator and writer, and served as curator of Amsterdam’s Witte de With museum from 2009 to 2012. According to Artforum, he splits his time between Berlin and Mexico City. His writing has appeared in journals like Afterall and The Exhibitionist.
This year’s Berlin Biennale, which was curated by artist Artur Żmijewski with associate curators Joanna Warsza and Russia’s activist-minded Voina art collective, included a group of Occupy protestors, who went on to stage a rebellion against the organizers. Christian Viveros-Fauné chronicled the saga in The Art Newspaper.
Good luck, Mr. Gaitán.
