Mr. Foundas comes to the Voice from a three-year stint as the associate program director at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Before that, Mr. Fondas was the film editor at LA Weekly, the West Coast Voice-owned alt weekly. 

This has been a tumultuous year for the alt-weekly chain. In September, Village Voice Media underwent a restructuring--the owners of the newspaper chain sold it to the company’s management, which meant that the newspapers separated from Backpage.com, the controversial classified site that has been tied to sex trafficking and prostitution. The new company was renamed Voice Media Group. Earlier this fall, Voice EIC Tony Ortega announced that he was leaving the paper, but sources speculated at the time that the departure was not Mr. Ortega's decision.

Last January, The Voice fired longtime critic J. Hoberman as part of the cost-cutting layoffs at the troubled alt-weekly over the past year.
