Ms. Blanchett would play the evil stepmother in the film (to be directed by Never Let Me Go's Mark Romanek), a role somewhat similar to the one Julia Roberts and Charlize Theron, respectively, played in last year's Snow White films Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman and that Angelina Jolie is to play in the Sleeping Beauty update Maleficent. Ms. Blanchett even played the villain in the fairy-tale inspired 2011 action film Hanna. Good thing there's just that much more prestige in fairy tales than in vampire stories that famous actresses are willing to jump on board this strange boomlet!
