Michael Lohan: Lindsay Is “One of Hollywood’s Top Actresses”

Last night, Lifetime aired the Elizabeth Taylor biopic Liz & Dick, and the reviews of Lindsay Lohan's performance--her first since a cameo in the 2010 action film Machete--were unkind. In an email to The Observer, however, Ms. Lohan's father Michael Lohan defended his daughter's acting.

Mr. Lohan wrote "I want to say that I watched Mean Girls just prior to Liz and Dick in order to compare Lindsay's acting from then until now! That being said, due to the content, I had to step away from some of the scenes." Liz & Dick depicts the rather torrid beginnings of the Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton liaison that invented modern celebrity culture.

The celebrity father compared the new TV movie, too, to the 2006 historical drama Bobby, which received respectable reviews and was one of Ms. Lohan's last big-screen roles. "In Bobby and "Liz and Dick", she had to assume and play another person! Regardless of what some of these so called critics (who don't have an ounce of talent in their bones) say, Lindsay proved that she is an amazing actress!"

Mr. Lohan and his daughter are currently estranged, if Ms. Lohan's comments on her Liz & Dick publicity tour(whereby she disavowed any knowledge of recent happenings in her father's life) is any indication. But Dad has faith in daughter's abilities: "This was a different role for her at a different time of her life! Yet, she still has what it takes to be the Lindsay Lohan that is one of Hollywood's top actresses!"
