Economy adds 155,000 new jobs, unemployment rate unchanged nationally

The economy added 155,000 new jobs in December, however the rate of unemployment remained unchanged for the month at 7.8 percent.

Health care led the way in job gains, adding 45,000 new jobs in December, followed closely by employment in food service and drinking establishments, which added 38,000 new jobs.

Construction added 30,000 new jobs in December, while manufacturing rose by 25,000 jobs.

October’s jobs number was revised down by 1,000 jobs to 137,000 new jobs while November’s figure was revised upward from an additional 146,000 jobs to 161,000.
