Inky Union agrees to negotiate

The union representing reporters at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily news has agreed to open its contract in an effort to save the two dailies.

The owenship group behind the two papers, Interstate General Media, had threatened to liquidate the papers if the union did not agree to a new contract.

Earlier this week, guild head Dan Gross resigned his post after announcing to members that he had agreed to take a buyout.  Gross had led the union for four years.

“My decision was not based on fear, but on opportunity. Taking time to explore alternative career interests is what was the right choice for me and my family,” Gross said.
