Last week, Lola Montes Schnabel opened “Within Reach,” an exhibition of new paintings at Tripoli Gallery that surround a theme representing a very human instinct, the yearning of mankind to be infinite. “Within Reach” may be the rare show that is not intended to provoke thought, exactly, but to tap into the subconscious for the emotions and feelings that lay dormant there. Her work Neither Here for There displays Ms. Schnabel’s central theme for the show. In it, a figure is drawn at the edge of a field, where she seems to be pondering whether or not she wants to enter the open wilderness ahead. Ms. Schnabel’s work typically depicts red skies, inspired by the Michelangelo Antonioni film Red Desert, and these are surely some of her finest. Don’t believe us? Click through to see more!
