Palisades Park Deputy Mayor Jason Kim wants to be an assemblymen in the 37th District and shows no signs of backing down through a week of negotiations spear-headed by Bergen County Democratic Committee players to try to talk him out of a convention fight.
Now is not the time, BCDC operatives told Kim, the focus should be Gov. Chris Christie, not Democratic Party incumbents – to no avail.
Kim has the support of veteran Palisades Park Democratic Committee Chairman Mike Pollotta and municipal chairs fed up with two seats occupied by politicians from the same town.
As it stands Assemblywoman Valerie Huttle (D-37) and Assemblyman Gordon Johnson (D-37) both live in Englewood.
A source close to the process said state Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37) is backing Huttle, in part because the districtmates have recently had a troubled history and the senator doesn’t want to have to handle Huttle in her own primary headache.
Tonight, Pollotta said Kim is committed to running.
