TRENTON – The full Senate wasted little time in signing off on five nominations to the state Superior Court Monday.
Senate lawmakers voted unanimously to approve the nominations to the court in a full voting session that lasted less than five minutes and after little discussion.
The session came after the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nominations earlier in the day.
A similar committee hearing and voting session is also scheduled for Thursday.
Sen. Nicholas Scutari, (D-22), said the confirmation hearing for several judges was the first of several slated for this month that will ultimately fill nearly half of the Superior Court vacancies. About two dozen Superior Court judges are scheduled to go through appointments or reappointments by the end of February, he said.
Scutari told PolitickerNJ on Saturday that the movement represents “a significant breakthrough in the judicial nomination process,” adding he’s been working with Gov. Chris Christie’s office on a nearly daily basis on the nominations.
